The school opened its doors in January 2017, and its initial facilities was originally serving as an Orphanage ‘VILLAGE INEZA’ founded and run by sisters “Abaja ba Kristo”. Following the Government program “Tubarere mu muryango”, literally: “Let them be educated in families”, and the new social policy to close the orphanages in Rwanda and to place all children in families, CD-ABK decided to continue caring for vulnerable children through the establishment of a nursery and primary school. This decision was also motivated by the following additional factors:
- The available facilities to accommodate learners for schooling;
- The existing strong partnership among CD-ABK, the surrounding community and local authorities;
- The passion for vulnerable children and families which is one of the pillars of the mission of CD-ABK;
- Testifying God’s love for human beings through dignifying social and well-being activities;
The Sisters had already achieved exceptional and highly successful educational projects in partnership with parents and with support from Government authorities and this quickly inspired them to bring that experience to a new and high-quality school. The name “INDATWA” is reflecting its vision of excellence based on the Sisters’ strong experience.
The school began its activities with 75 students in the first two grades of Nursery including 43 boys and 32 girls. It is currently having 552 children including 237 in Nursery and 315 in primary. The staff members are 23 Teachers and 20 staff members who are serving different services. Through the efforts of the founder in mobilizing support from its partners, the school built large buildings in this last academic year of 2022-2023 to expand its facilities.
Nowadays, Indatwa School Rubengera – ISR has modern facilities to accommodate nursery and lower primary grade with an ultimate enrollment of 800 students. The vision of the school is to be an excellent school today and tomorrow.
